Care with Arsimmer McCoy: Make a Masterpiece of Me

Inspired by the many ways artists across Miami-Dade have deepened their resolve to care for themselves, for each other, and for our communities, Locust Projects launched a new program called Care, featuring local artists who work at the intersection of self-care, relational care, and/or community care. Starting in the summer of 2021, artists have created experiences at Locust Projects and beyond that nourish the whole artist, the creative force in each of us, and the communities we form and sustain.

On Saturday, July 10, 2021 writer, educator, and cultural worker, Arsimmer McCoy hosted a workshop on empowering ourselves and our communities through poetry, in the Locust Projects residency. Participants included artists, writers, and others and it was a workshop filled with laughs, conversation, vulnerability, a lil bit of writing, and delicious food to end the day.

Arsimmer guided guests to explore ideas around objectification and personification, guiding them to envision themselves and each other as powerful beings through writing. Arsimmer also shared her new film, A Poem for My Black Baby, made in collaboration with Terence Price.
