Care with Rev. Houston R. Cypress: Big Listening, Deep Cypress
Inspired by the many ways artists across Miami-Dade have deepened their resolve to care for themselves, for each other, and for our communities, Locust Projects launched a new program called Care, featuring local artists who work at the intersection of self-care, relational care, and/or community care. Starting in the summer of 2021, artists have created experiences at Locust Projects and beyond that nourish the whole artist, the creative force in each of us, and the communities we form and sustain.
On September 4, 2021, a group of thirty people joined Rev. Houston R. Cypress (Otter Clan) for a deep listening ramble through diverse plant communities of the Big Cypress National Preserve, starting from the Oasis Visitor Center.
Big Listening, Deep Cypress. Somewhere deep in the Greater Everglades, where the evidence of life abounds, susurrant pathways of joy await us.
After group introductions, Rev. Houston R. Cypress (Otter Clan) guided participants through a walk along the Big Cypress National Preserve to learn about its diverse plant communities, stopping along the way to meditate, listen and give thanks, then sharing our insights and experiences.
Thank you all for braving the mud, mosquitoes, and rain with us, we hope you enjoyed this enriching experience honoring our Everglades as much as we did!
