Closing 2024 @ the DiLL: Expanding Art & Tech Horizons

Closing out 2024, the final DiLL workshops explored the intersection of AI, 3D, and intermedia experimentation. 3D artist and technologist Alec Jerome introduced participants to the use of AI and 3D tools in filmmaking, offering insights into how emerging technologies are reshaping cinematic storytelling and production. Meanwhile, multimedia artist Richard Vergez led a session on expanded cinema and techniques for creating immersive, multisensory artworks. In addition, Richard Garet presented a live sound performance, enveloping the space in his signature explorations of noise, texture, and sonic abstraction.

These final events marked the end of the year with bold experiments in digital art, technology, and sensory experience, and can’t wait to welcome everyone back in the New Year. Happy Holidays to Locust Projects’ friends and family, and see you in 2025!

November 21, 2024- AI and 3D for Film and Games Workshop with Alec Jerome

Artist and technologist Alec Jerome led a hands-on workshop exploring the use of AI and 3D tools in filmmaking and game development, offering participants a deep dive into cutting-edge digital production techniques.

The session covered 3D model generation and integration into Blender, an open-source suite for modeling, animation, and rendering. Participants then learned how to export scenes to Unreal Engine, a powerful real-time 3D development platform used in gaming, virtual production, and interactive media. The workshop also introduced motion tracking in Adobe After Effects, AI-driven sound generation, and pre-visualization techniques using tools like DALL·E by OpenAI and Rodin by Deemos.

Alec Jerome is a Miami-based artist and technologist with a BFA in Art and Technology. Specializing in 3D design, animation, AR/VR, and video production, his work blends humor, nostalgia, and innovation. Alec has created viral AR filters, produced animations for MTV, and contributed to documentary films and music videos that merge traditional film techniques with cutting-edge VFX and 3D animation. His work has been featured in prominent exhibitions, including the Miami Design District and a secret collaboration with Nite Owl Theater “Dream Arcade.” Alec is currently offering affordable virtual production solutions in his new endeavor and collaboration with “South Beach Shark Club” director Robert Ramos at “Secret Deluxe” located in Allapattah.

December 19, 2024- Richard Vergez Sound & Vision Workshop + Performance by Richard Garet

For the final Locust Late @ the DiLL of 2024, Richard Vergez led Sound & Vision, a workshop exploring the fusion of visual and auditory media through a combination of physical materials, hardware, and digital tools. Drawing inspiration from Fluxus, the avant-garde, video art, collage, and expanded cinema, Vergez guided participants through the creative process of blending traditional and modern techniques to produce new forms of artistic expression. Emphasizing intermedia experimentation in the digital age, the workshop encouraged participants to bring personal objects or tools—such as a piece of gear, a laptop, a camera, or a light source—to contribute to the collaborative exploration.

Following the workshop, guests experienced Material Audiovision, a live audiovisual performance by Richard Garet that investigated the materiality of sound and light. Using obsolete and analog technologies, including malfunctioning tape players, electromagnetic fields, and algorithmic visuals, Garet transformed glitches, noise, and distortion into artistic elements. His real-time manipulation of sound and image created a meditative experience, reflecting on themes of memory, decay, and transformation.

Presented as part of the Knight Digital Innovation Lab at Locust Projects.
